The Story Pirates are a nationally renowned group of top comedians, musicians, best-selling authors and incredible teachers with fifteen years of experience creating content that celebrates the imaginations of kids. Cats Sit On You is the Story Pirates’ third full-length studio album, preceded by their critically acclaimed releases, Backstroke Raptor and Nothing is Impossible.

With 12 original songs based entirely on kids’ ideas, Cats Sit On You celebrates the Story Pirates’ strongly held belief that kids are creative geniuses. From a song based on the one line story of cats sitting on you and taking over the school, to a bluesy rock tune about a boy’s distaste for affection, Cats Sit On You celebrates kids’ wackiest and wildest ideas.

Encouraging kids to express themselves, the Story Pirates also present overarching themes of courage, accepting differences, and finding one’s place in the world. “One Little Pink Rose” is a power ballad about a flower who learns to stand tall despite their differences, while “Banana Clown” (feat. GRAMMY® winner Secret Agent 23 Skidoo) tells the story of a certain fruit-obsessed guy trying to find the right job with some trial and error. Also featured is a timely story about two kids obsessed with shaping their future by working for the census in “The First Kids to Work at the Census.”

Top-notch songwriting and production is always important to The Story Pirates. We want to honor kids’ ideas with the best music possible. Each song was brought to life by Story Pirates composers Jack Mitchell, Timothy Platt, Monique Moses (Astronomy Club on Netflix), Eric Gersen, Michael B. Wells, Rachel Wenitsky (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), Ellen Winter (36 Questions podcast), and Eli Bolin (Emmy-nominated composer for John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch and Documentary Now: Co-Op). The album was recorded at the Relic Room in New York City and produced by Brendan O’Grady, Sam Bair, Jack Mitchell, and Eric Gersen.
